Image to Text (OCR) & AI Image Describer
Extract text from screenshots, photos and scans, write alt text or a description of any image, and list the objects in it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I extract text from an image?
Choose Extract text, then drop an image, pick a file, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac), and click Extract text. The text comes back in its original language and reading order, with headings, lists and tables kept as Markdown, ready to copy or download.
Can it read handwriting?
Often, if the handwriting is reasonably neat. It is an AI vision model rather than a classic OCR engine, so it handles photos at an angle, unusual fonts and handwriting better than most OCR, but words it cannot read are marked [illegible]. Always check important text such as numbers on receipts.
How do I generate alt text for an image?
Choose Describe and set Length to Alt text. You get a single sentence of 125 characters or fewer, without "image of", plus a ready-made <img> tag to paste into your HTML. Short and Detailed give longer captions and descriptions.
What does the Objects mode do?
It lists the distinct objects, people and animals in the image with how many of each it can see, plus a one-sentence summary of the scene. You can copy the list as JSON or download it as CSV. It does not draw boxes around objects, and counts in crowded scenes are estimates.
Which languages are supported?
Text extraction keeps whatever language the image is written in. Descriptions and object names can be written in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Hindi, Japanese or Chinese.
Are my images stored?
No. The image is resized in your browser, sent over HTTPS to an AI vision model on Cloudflare Workers AI, and not saved by ToolDock. The same image and request may be answered from a short-lived cache so repeat requests are faster.
