Frequently Asked Questions

Which file types can I convert?

PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb, .xls), OpenDocument (.odt, .ods), Apple Numbers, CSV, HTML, XML, and images (.jpg, .png, .webp, .svg). Older .doc and PowerPoint files are not supported; save them as .docx or PDF first.

How are spreadsheets converted?

Each sheet becomes a Markdown table under its own heading, so the data stays in rows and columns and can be pasted straight into an LLM prompt or a README.

What happens to images?

Image files are described in text by an AI vision model. Images inside PDFs and Word files are skipped unless you turn on "Describe images", which adds a description for up to 10 images per document. Descriptions can be written in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese or German.

Why is my PDF empty?

Scanned PDFs contain pictures of pages rather than text, so there is nothing to extract. Export the pages as images and convert those, and the vision model will read them.

Are my files stored?

No. Files are sent over HTTPS, converted in memory on Cloudflare, and discarded when the response is sent. Nothing is cached or written to storage.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes, up to five files and 20 MB per conversion, each file up to 10 MB. Download each result as a .md file, all of them as a .zip, or copy them as one combined Markdown document.
