How do I test my webcam and microphone?
Pick what you want to test (camera, microphone, speakers, or any mix), click Start test, and allow access when your browser asks. You will see your camera preview with its resolution and frame rate, a live microphone level meter, and buttons to play a test sound, with a summary of anything that needs fixing.
Why is my camera or microphone not working?
The most common causes are permission being blocked for the site, another app (such as Zoom or Teams) already using the device, a closed privacy shutter, or the operating system blocking the browser. The test shows which of these it detected and how to fix it. On a Mac, check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and Microphone.
Can I hear what my microphone sounds like?
Yes. Use Record & transcribe to record up to 10 seconds and play it back, so you hear exactly what others hear, including the effect of echo cancellation, noise suppression and auto gain, which you can switch on and off.
How does the speech-to-text work?
There are two options. Live captions use your browser's built-in speech recognition and show words as you speak; in Chrome and Edge that audio is processed by Google or Microsoft. Record & transcribe sends your short recording to ToolDock's Whisper speech-to-text API, works in every browser, and detects the language automatically.
How do I test left and right speakers?
In the Speakers section, play the Left, Both and Right sounds. Left and Right should only come out of that side; if they are swapped, your headphones are on backwards. In Chrome and Edge you can also choose which output device to test.
Is my video or audio recorded?
No. The camera, microphone and speaker tests run entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Audio only leaves your device if you click Transcribe or turn on Live captions.
